Did Piers Morgan just reveal the ‘silver lining to a USA loss’ in the World Cup?

Indeed. And, well, normally we’d be pretty pumped about that. Yeah, yeah … we know it’s soccer, but American exceptionalism is American exceptionalism!

As it turns out, though, there’s a really strong case to be made for the U.S. taking a nosedive:

Ooo …

So, if we’re understanding him correctly, there’s no chance of Piers returning to England if the U.S. does better. Is that right?

Does that mean that if the U.S. is out of the running before England, Piers might still deport himself and leave us alone at last?

It’s worth noting they’re not exactly clamoring for Piers in England, either. So they’ve got a pretty good reason to tank it, too. The prospect of being permanently rid of Morgan is indeed a tempting one. The question is: Is it worth throwing away the World Cup?
