‘He would have wanted it’: Mary Katherine Ham shares how Jake Brewer’s ‘still giving’

It’s been nearly two months since Mary Katharine Ham lost her husband Jake Brewer in a tragic accident. But she will always carry a part of him with her and, thanks to his selflessness, so will others in need:

A 28-year-old man in Morocco and a 55-year-old woman in Indiana can see again today thanks to Jake's cornea donations. There was some question as to whether he would be eligible because he had recently traveled to Kenya (malaria, etc.). I somewhat forcefully told them to put extra people on making sure he could give a) because it would be some of the best stuff they ever got and b) because he would have wanted it that way. That is not a conversation I ever expected to have, and one of the hardest, but I'm glad I did. There's something very Jake about a simultaneous view of Indiana and Morocco. I hope he enjoys it.
