Episode 1 – 🎄Christmas Stocking Knit-Along 2024 with ARNE & CARLOS! 🎄 | Easy Daily Tutorial 🌟
Hi everyone and welcome back to our YouTube
channel we are as always your host ARNE & CARLOS and we are back with a knit along last year
we did a stocking knit along that was very popular in December but uh we do realize how
busy everyone is I know we are really busy aren’t we there’s so much baking and
cleaning and cooking and decorations that have to get up and gift shopping and
there’s so much to do so we were thinking that if we start now in November the socks will
be finished at the end of November and then you can get it up for Christmas exactly yeah um and
we’re doing a Christmas stocking just as we did last year um kind of like the same format uh
we’re starting it today with the toe and then we are going to be doing six rounds per day
which is very very achievable lots of people did that last year and everybody commented
how achievable and how fast and how easy it was to do six rounds a day um so I think that
this year it’s going to be even more successful since you’ll all finish up just before uh December
1st and all you need to know you you probably got it already from the blog or the mailing list
so everything should be fine you should have everything now if you have got those messages so
you’re ready to go and you can knit along with us if you just suddenly stumbled upon this and
you have no idea of what we’re doing all you need to do is to go to Carnacc carlos.com blog or you just
go to ARNECARLOS.com and select a blog from the menu and the first post that you see which we’ve pinned
is the knitalong post now we will be posting a new post every day with the six rounds so every day
you have to go to the ARNECARLOS.com blog and pick up the pattern there we’re not sending it out
a lot of people last year assumed that we would be sending it every day by email we
don’t want to spam people’s inboxes and then get banned so we don’t do that instead, you have to
actively go to our blog pick up the pattern and download it there we also want to let you know
that the pattern is only free for a limited period we’re doing this knit along completely
free with a completely free pattern every day you’ll get a little piece of the chart but on
December 1st Darna what happens then you have to pay for it right exactly so you have
to follow us now and download every day exactly we’re going to be working this nit along
every day from November 1st until November 25th so 25th is the final day of the knitalong and
then you have the 26th 27th 28th 29th and 30th You’ve Got 5 days after we complete the knit along
to download the full pattern and on December 1st the pattern is no longer free and we win the lost
ends right and since we are pre-recording this we we are trying to make some some
winter what you say winter field because I don’t know if you can hear it but it’s actually
raining outside and well we we do our best to get you in the Christmas mood or the winter mood
the winter mood of Christmas mood more the winter mood we wait for December with Christmas
at least we do well AR and we go full Christmas mode on December 1st I can promise you that right
now we’re not we’re in the pre-Christmas model so it’s not I mean this is not a Christmas
the scene is it is what we see out the window from the right it’s what we see from our dining room
yeah what we see out the window every day here in Norway we’ve got a few little friends um one
of them’s Bob one of them’s Donnie who’s B Who’s d uh I haven’t figured it out yet and then
we have two more I thinSuieie is one of them but then I just can’t figure out who’s the last
one is Fran Fran okay there we go so our little friends Don Bob Susie and Fran are going to be
joining us every day here uh for the knitalong and they just sit there and they wait for the food
yeah exactly we’ll have to go feed them afterward and yeah we’ll talk about bullfinches and we’ll
talk about this decoration that we have behind us the window the window the window we’ll we’ll tell
your stories about this throughout the knit I’m sure you’re going to enjoy hearing a
a little bit of the craziness that is ARNE & CARLOS sometimes there are a lot of crazy things going
on fun stories and you might some of you when you see this we are actually in Japan
together right that’s why we have to pre-record it because we are in Japan right now yes as you
see it as you see it right now we’re in Norway but when you see this will be in Japan in Japan
and it’s the magic of Television we can create anything and we can post it whenever we want
and what we do now is pretend it’s November 1st and that we are here we’re not in
Japan we’re here with you um keeping you company and making ke sure that you get your stocking
knit in on time so wherever you are right now if you see this today you’re here you’re here or
we’re here it’s December 1st right you might have that view outside your window yeah we
might just have it we might have it too yeah or we have it like if not we have this
one right we have this one to enjoy so um as we mentioned the Nong is free it’s completely free
and uh all you need to do is tune in here every day in November until the 25th to get your
Clues uh see the reveal of the pattern and enjoy a little a little quality time together with us we
would like to encourage everybody because we have a wonderful knitting Community here don’t
are there a lot of good knits out there so if there are any new beginners you can always post
comments and I guess people will help each other we will also come in sometimes but I don’t know
when we are in Japan maybe not so much but people will help each other we hope I think we’re going
to try to come in even when we’re in Japan what we want to encourage is you know our wonderful
Community to be active we’ve got comments down below um what we would like is for people to
share their progress with us in writing and you know write about how it’s going for them whether
they think six rounds is too much, uh you know if you’re a new beginner um and you have questions or
concerns please put them down in the comments and then we know how many wonderful knits we have I
mean we have a community of extremely potentially perfect knits the best in the world are
are part of our community so if you’re an advanced Knitter and you read a question that you
think that you know you can answer please do that interact with each other and just have a lovely
time here uh every day that’s what we want and then post your progress as images because we would
love to see images so do post them on Facebook and Instagram hashtagging ARNECARLOS um and then
we’ll get to see the progress so please be active here in the comments field to get to know each other
get to know wonderful people in this community and you never know one day you’ll probably meet
somebody you’ve been active with here on one of our knitting cruises because that’s how it is
happens all the time happens all the time um and just have a good time together with us that’s
that’s what we ask in return for giving you the pattern up for free and they toe
so this is what you’re making first and this is um I think it’s called like the fish mouth or fish lips
something we call fish kiss fish lips lifted increase at the end of each needle on every
second round so no it’s before the last needle no Stitch so time it’s it’s an increase lifted
increase at the end of the needle but you increase before the last stitch on the needle and every
second round but it’s all in the pattern right if you feel confused now I’m confused right if you
feel confused now go to arnc carlos.com blog and download the the first clue of the day so it looks
like this like a windmill yeah kind of it goes this way and I know that a lot of people have just
got the the yarn and they’ve got their needles whether you’re doing magic loop whether you’re
doing circulars uh well which is a magic loop really whether you’re doing double points um you can now
cast down right and how many would we cast on You cast on uh four stitches on each needle if
you do four needles so that will be 16 if you’re doing a circular and then you increase your knit
the round and then you start increasing on every second round until you have 18 stitches on the
needle yeah and then we do the first six rounds tomorrow, yeah and that’s something we’ve always
done ARA I mean even when we started our first book The 55 Christmas Balls to Knit Book that
we did in 2010 already there we’re increasing on every second round it’s always every second round
is it because you can do it if you increase on every round you will stretch the same Stitch over
and over like if you do a lifted increase you will see it if you increase on the wrong
round because exactly you have a very long stretch that doesn’t look very nice so every second
round every second round and we’re doing lifted increases because that’s what we love I mean
you can do any kind of increase you want, h but we like picking up the Stitch that is below
the one that is on the needle and pulling it up and then knitting it pumps you would usually and
you know if you forget to increase on a round it’s not the end of the world because you can cheat
and increase on the next round, yeah and we also use the tail from the Caston as the stitch marker
so we just put the yarn up so we will put this one with us as we go and that’s to remember where the
rounds are yeah no it’s raining it’s raining a lot yeah a lot so cheating AR a lot of people when you
say oh you can just cheat and you know they kind of raise their eyebrow but um eyebrow but I know
that you’ve been cheating since n since the ’90s when you went to design school um cheating a lot
yeah you told me that uh whenever you work with Fabrics because Fabrics are elastic you have
that can cheat and uh you won’t even see do you do everything by the book like you
do the pattern and then you try it on the person and no persons are the same so you have to go
away from the base and cheat a little sometimes maybe one shoulder is higher than the other or
there’s always something and then you have to go away from the base but cheating is fine yeah
no, as long as the result is good it’s not like cheating in exams it’s like just cheating in the
the sense that you’re not doing it by the book and that’s what we mean I mean if you miss
an increase in one round just increases in the next nobody will see it and remember you’re
working with something elastic so it will adapt I mean not this one cuz this is not
for a human foot are you in the winter mood now oh I’m so in the winter mood I’m loving
my winter landscape but the Heavy Rain The Heavy Rain is I hope you can’t hear it on the on the
video oh I don’t know maybe the mic take away yeah we’re doing microphones so um but if you can
hear the rain think about it as a cozy rainy day I have to I have to say I love this we’re
not love I love it I think it’s so nice we’re not going to tell you what season it is because we
don’t want to you know destroy all the magic but have some magic but let’s put it this way this is
not a very typical November uh scene I mean what we’re seeing out there but what you see that way
but what you see there is very November-ish anyway earnest so yeah uh increasing every other round and
then doing the fish lips yeah whatever it’s called yeah maybe some of you know the name yeah I don’t
I can’t I think the first time I heard the name it was something about a fish but I’ve
never heard a Norwegian name on it because you increase on every second round at the end of the
needle mhm I don’t know there are probably names I think a lot of some people out there probably know
the name yeah but I think it has something to do with the fish yeah so anyway a nice increase
absolutely yeah so why don’t you just uh cast on and get those fish lips moving and just knit all
the way to the top and uh tomorrow we will start revealing the six Color Work rounds per day um we
believe that this uh podcast is going to be every day from today uh which is officially it’s not
but it’s officially November 1st and it will go all the way until November 25th November 25th will
be the final day of the NIT along when we reveal the whole design um and that’s all that you need
to know right now you’re on a need-to-know basis and all you need to know is that you’ve got the
the first part of the pattern is already downloadable at ARNECARLOS.com and uh pops in every day um we
forgot to mention I think it’s also important to mention the time so this podcast will uh take
place every day at 6:00 p.m.
Central European time which is uh 12: noon Eastern time in North
America it’s 9:00 a.m. Pacific time and if you’re in um other places uh like Japan I think it’s 8
hours uh forward so it’s at the day after or if you’re in Australia it’s also the day after um
so Australians are always slightly delayed which is also a good thing to do this along now so
that they get everything ready on time right now and from tomorrow we will be back in the
winter wonderland we will yeah we will always be in the winter wonderland we will never talk
about rain anymore yeah I also want to mention because a lot of people get very carried away and
so they think that when they wake up on November 2nd they’ll be able to pick up the pattern right
you know the second part as soon as they wake up but I’m sorry to say that you’ll have to wait
the pattern will only upload uh daily at the same time or more or less at the time the podcast
ends except for today today you already can down could download the pattern when we started it
but starting tomorrow the pattern will only download about 10 past or quarter past 6 Central
European Time so you know that’s good okay we also have a fabulous competition guys a competition
and we need to uh get that running as well so uh here is a little bit more about the competition

looking for and we’re going to give you a little hint uh Wikipedia is not um a reliable
source uh so you may want to look elsewhere if you want to get the correct answer and uh you
can put the answer down preferably once uh per day uh during this knitalong and that will
increase uh your chances but please do not put the answer more than once per day because
then you will be ghosted by YouTube and you do not want that to happen so once a day is pretty
much enough and uh we will announce the lucky winner um in December so this will be um a fine
