Twitter is buzzing with conflicting reports of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. CNN and other outlets were initially reporting that Israel and Hamas had reached a tentative agreement, brokered by Egypt, that was scheduled to go into effect tonight. The reports were supposedly based on remarks from Hamas and Islamic Jihad as well as Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi:
#BREAKING: #Gaza truce to be announced in #Cairo Tuesday night, sources from #Hamas, Islamic Jihad say. #DNE, #Egypt via @afp
— The Daily News Egypt (@DailyNewsEgypt) November 20, 2012
Egyptian Pres. Morsy says “travesty of the Israel aggression on Gaza will end in a few hours”: on.cnn.com/SbXrX1

BREAKING: Ceasefire in GAZA reports say it will take effect at midnight there.
— Jeremy Desel (@jeremydeselKHOU) November 20, 2012
Israel denies the reports:
Israeli spokesman denies reports of a cease-fire, telling @wolfblitzer “No deal done yet. Our strikes against Hamas continue.” #cnn
— Janelle Rodriguez (@janelleCNN) November 20, 2012
Israel specifically denying a cease fire. I will take their word over a terrorist group and their supporters in Egypt.
— AG (@AG_Conservative) November 20, 2012
And evidently is insisting on 24 hours of peace before considering an agreement:
#Israel wants 24 hours of calm before agreeing to cease-fire #Gaza
— CNN Natl Security (@natlsecuritycnn) November 20, 2012
Breaking news now on CNN that is changing minute by minute. A source tells CNN, Israel wants 24 hours of calm before a cease-fire.

Regardless of whether or not a ceasefire agreement will be reached, Israel supporters are skeptical of its effectiveness:
For Hamas, cease fire simply means “we’re running out of children to hide behind.Let’s regroup and reload for next time.”
— Ben Howe (@BenHowe) November 20, 2012
@cnnbrk HOW LONG WITH THE CEASE FIRE LAST? UNTIL THEY GET MORE ROCKETS?
— Super Smart (@SuperSmart13) November 20, 2012
What’s the over/under on the cease fire? My guess…7.5 hrs. If it ever happens at all. #IStandWithIsraelagainst the #savages
— brad (@bdaw73) November 20, 2012
@wolfblitzer…Israel has the right to demand WAR! Their people are being killed and everyone wants cease fire? 4WHAT? Hamas to reload??
— STRENGTH.CMD (@STRENGTHCMD) November 20, 2012
@14kathi @weaselzippers /They want cease fire till Israel turns it’s back, who are we kidding here, ?
— virgil renfroe (@vfroe) November 20, 2012
My guess is that this cease fire will last about 12 hours before some idiot Hamas starts shooting rockets out his back yard again.

Don’t be tricked by a Hamas cease fire. They’re liars and terrorists. warning: graphic photos soc.li/IK7D2IL

Okay let’s get this straight, the last time Israel and Hamas had a cease fire, Hamas gave the world a “fuck you” and bombed Israel anyway
— Alex Sherman (@supersherms812) November 20, 2012
Their suspicions are well founded:
This thugs will continue even after cease fire “@ajelive: #IDF continues shelling northern #Gaza from its position outside the border |
— Colonel Ntsako (@NtsakoBaloyi) November 20, 2012
At the end of the day don’t blame Hamas for those bloodshed,Israelis disagree to cease fire,THEY WANT TO CONTINUE!
— Milzam Als (@MilzamAls) November 20, 2012
Israel not committing to a cease fire… Some wonderful ” Defence ” there.. #Pricks
— Hassan Akbar (@slrhas) November 20, 2012
really though who cares about a ceasefire? i won’t be happy till Israel is completely eradicated
— CNN Lies(@kim_tastiic) November 20, 2012
Seems like a ceasefire has been made. Damage is already done though. Israel needs to be punished
— #Gazamovement2012 (@PrinceAmirVI) November 20, 2012
Hamas supporters will not rest until Israel is obliterated.
So, what will it take in order to achieve a true ceasefire?
Call me a warmonger but the only ceasefire I want to see with Hamas is them ceasing to fire because they’re freakin’ dead. All of ‘em.
— Ben Howe (@BenHowe) November 20, 2012
Pro-tip: there could be a permanent ceasefire if Hamas would stop firing rockets into Israeli cities.

Bingo.
Twitchy will continue to monitor this developing story and bring you updates.
